Paul Millsap will not play tonight in the game against the Phoenix Suns. The Atlanta Hawks have announced that Millsap is not with the team due to personal reasons.
Best wishes to Paul on whatever matter he is dealing with. Certainly we all respect his privacy, but “personal reasons” is very vague and it can cause fans to worry if this is something serious.
I think there is a way to respect a player’s privacy while at the same time being more descriptive. Is it a family matter? A health concern? Problems with a relationship? Throwing out a more descriptive term wouldn’t hurt the player and it sure would dispel any negative speculation.
After signing the huge contract in the off-season, I think we can assume that Millsap isn’t sitting out ’cause he is unhappy with his money.
UPDATE: Chris Vivlamore of the AJC has reported that Millsap is out to attend his grandmother’s funeral. I don’t know why the Hawks didn’t just say that in their press release. Thank goodness for the media, huh?
Best wishes to Paul, hope to see him back on the court soon. Unfortunately, a very winnable game against a mediocre Phoenix team just became a lot more difficult.
